Dyeing Fabric

Aswell as being in the print room i also spent some time in the dye kitchen mixing up and testing flamingo colours!! It was fun, i think i even enjoyed working in the dye kitchen that i do the print room. You can be much more experimental and free with what you're doing. I am now aware of how to make up dyes for the fabrics so will be able to do this more often without the need for assistance:)
I used pink red, golden yellow, scarlet red, buttercup yellow and bright turquoise.
These were sampler pieces of fabric to test the colours and how i dyed them; in the same bath, dip dye and cross dying. I love the colours just like flamingos! I used polyester, silk and cotton! Afteri had tested the colours, i dyed a bulk of fabric flamingo pink mixing red and pink to get an orangey pink. I want to pleat the fabric in ways and drape them over mannequins in keeping with my fashion context and to recreate flamingo feathers...

I added in turqouise to create a direct contrast and to brighten up the pinks ! I love the colours i have created and cannot wait to start experimenting with them! I definetley would like to do more of this in the future. Now have to think what would be really interesting and beautiful to do with them and what techniques to use....
