Technology.
As part of looking into technology i need to understand why it is so important for its growth in textiles...
As a viewer we use all of our senses, touch, smell, eyes, taste and hear to understand and relate to a piece of work. As a popular lifestyle trend interactive retail is becoming an increasingly popular way to advertise and to connect with the buyer.
Kurt Geigers shoe store in Covent Garden, London has installed a tv interactive screen featured on a mirrored wall. Here you can choose what you are interested in, and it'll provide you with information based on your own choices making shopping personal, immediate and most of all interactive. Mirrored walls are also part of being interactive although it doesn't use any technology it is a basic tool in connecting with the buyer as it is immediate to the customer to try and buy...
Westfields shoping centre has also become interactive with their latest touchscreen equipment. Here you can get more personalised due to the trend you choose, their system will accordingly select appropriate information for you too engage with and give them moreselection choices. This can all be sent to a personal email, to keep connected with the customer and build a bond between buyer and company, addding a personal touch even though it has all been done using technology.

Looking back into the website: cutecircuit i found new ideas evolving from the idea around technology. This dress is one of the most recognised dresses from cute curcuits haute couture collection and is made up of silk taffeta, chiffon, svarovski crystals with LED technology creating different patterns and colours. The idea and colours comes from the roman goddess Aurora who announces every morning the arrival of the sun.
AURORA DRESS.
Cute Circuit is a London based
company that specialises in designing interactive AND wearable fashion incorporating
smart technolgies, textiles and misco electronics. It is the first company to
ever produce clothing that has been worn on the red carpet and first to sell
their products in major stores such as selfridges.

Similar to Aurora Dress, this is named ‘the Galaxy
dress’. From just seeing these photos you notice a trend and a material that
cute circuit work with: LEDS. This dress has 24,000 LEDs that measure 2mm by
2mm making them appear flat. They are ipod battery operated and will last about
30 minutes, this means that they will not overheat for the wearer due to
the technology used. The LED lights are layered between 4 layers of silk
chiffon meaning that it can sculpt to the body easily and freely. Although cute circuit make use of
smart materials the products are safe to wear as they are free
from mercury, lead and
are RoSH
compliant. All the textiles are Oeko
tex tested which means they have
been tested for safety &manufactured without harming anything. They also
say they use ‘advanced, ethical, clean manufacturing processes’.
SAFURA'S DRESS.

This dress is made up of 5400 LED lights embroidered onto the dress made out of silk chiffon. It also displays video from real time streaming. This was useful as this dress was won for the eurovision final, and the video was used to show the emotion of the song.

30.04.2012 - Techno Fashion
After todays seminar Elaine introduced to us 'trendhunter' to show us the top 20 lifestyle trend influences (as seen in pdp) and upon researching thermochromic dye useage in fashion i found some interesting imagery about and how thermochromic dyes are used within todays consumer market... They are becoming increasingly used and now have a high interest within all areas of consumer market from health/medicine masks to helpful baby equipment, thermochromic dyes seem to be being applied anywhere now! Either to enhance the appearance or to be used as a helpful visual mechanism.

I like Elisa's work due to her context being interiors but having taken inspiration from knit from her pattern she has not only experimented with different materials, but that is her direct influence. Her work is slightly different to Shi Yuan as she has kept the colour simple but the pattern complex. Not only is it a decorative feature but also a happy reminder to tell you to turn your radiator off, conserving heat!
